ITALY DESTINATION OPENS TO THE INDIAN MARKET

Maria Luisa Ciccone - CEO of Italy Destination - went on her last business trip in India, to Delhi and Mumbai to meet the major players in the Indian Mice market.

"The forecasts show that the number of Indian people travelling abroad by 2020 will rise from the actual 15 to 50 million, making India one of the fastest growing tourism markets” - Maria Luisa Ciccone says. Although the most popular destinations continue to be Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia, Italy is definitely recognized as one of the most important touristic destinations in Europe and worldwide, offering a "Made in Italy" experience at 360 degrees from culture to art, from food & wine to fashion and nature – the lakes, the mountains, the sea and the countryside – but also shopping, so becoming a popular destination especially for Indian wealthy tourists and which is becoming more and more a mono-destination.

“That is why, for Expo 2015 in Milan, we would like to build partnerships with the best Indian players to accommodate an exigent tourist as the Indian one” - Maria Luisa Ciccone says.

"During the meetings we realized that the Indian tourist loves italian art cities but also the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Taormina, the Cinque Terre, whose popularity is constantly growing. There is more and more interest in the lakes and towards the snow of our Alps and we hope that our Alps will soon be more attractive than the Swiss landscapes promoted in the Bollywood filmography and which so much affect the Indian tourist!".

"A great interest is also for everything representing our “Made In Italy” and the “Italian Lifestyle” like shopping, luxury cars, entertainments. Milan is a strong pole of attraction above all considering that in 2015 Milan will host Expo. Travelling in Italy is trendy and fashionable and understanding and investigating the many aspects of Italian culture and art are synonymous of a certain status symbol. Even Italian gastronomy is becoming more and more appreciated in India with its ability to meet the needs of the vegetarian travelers, even if the demanding Indian tourist continues to look for "Indian food" abroad.

To develop the Indian market, Italy Destination has inaugurated a local collaboration coordinated by Deepika Chowdhry of Candid India, a respected and well-established professional in Delhi.

Very soon Italy Destination will organize further meetings in other major cities of the subcontinent, to continue building relationships with a market like India which sees in Italy a more interesting destination, so aiming to assume a leading role for the Indian luxury incoming.
